NAGAAD conducts three days training for women’s right in Islam and political participation

NAGAAD NETWORK has conducted three days training for Women’s Rights in Islam and political participation, this training intends enabling women to understand their religious rights including women’s political participation. 60 participants from universities students, women lawyers, Nagaad member organization, youth Organization, women’s political aspirants, other women coalitions have been invited in this highly organized training seminar.

The Celebration of International Women’s Day in Somaliland

Every year, the celebration of international women’s day is held in Somaliland. This year 8th March, the celebration has been organized by NAGAAD in collaboration with NOW and Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the republic of Somaliland. There were also other international and local NGOs that have played a dominant role for the realization of the day both technically and financially. These include; UNHCR, APD, NRC, CCBRS, TS, and CLHE.

Nagaad Network has been implementing an integrated project(2009-2012) entitled “Enhancing women's participation in both rural and urban level decision making at all levels of society in Togdheer region’’. The project was funded by International Solidarity Foundation (ISF) who is a long-term donor of NAGAAD since 2001. NAGAAD ANNUAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY (GA CONFERENCE)

On 24th December 2011, NAGAAD NETWORK held the annual general assembly at Crown hotel. In this GA meeting all the 46 member organizations participated where 16 of them came from the regions where they do operate accordingly.  The Network BOD organized the conference in a very attractive and responsive manner where the participants proved ahead and towards developed women’s network. This is because the network started its operation from scratch in 1997 with few member organizations and the 2011 GA meeting, developed network was the paramount feature. Read more...

NAGAAD Presented the findings of Legal/Policy gaps on SGBV in Somaliland

On 13th December, 2011, NAGAAD Network with collaboration of UNDP presented the legal/policy gaps on the current situation of SGBVs in Somaliland. This was as a result of a hired consultant in which the Network intended to find out the potential legal/policy constraints on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against Women (CEDAW). In the process of presenting the findings Nagaad had invited all the concerned stakeholders including government, lawyers, NGOs both international and local, academicians, youth and women groups.

NAGAAD Conducted an Assessment on Interested Women Candidates for the 2012 Local Government Elections.

 

The first democratic Local Government elections is expected to be held on mid 2012 in a political atmosphere of party campaigns. Women representatives in the local government institutions were almost zero where there are only two females out of 285 seats. This was total discrimination and yet women are majority of the population and even the voters. In addition to that, those councils diverted their responsibilities into political scheme and they have never narrated a single legislative policy for the local governments since they were the first group elected.

Celebrating a decade’s HBF achievements towards gender equality held in Nairobi, Kenya on the 7th and 8th October 2011

The Executive Director of NAGAAD Network Miss Nafisa Yusuf Mohamed participated a two day celebration in which Heinrich Böll Stiftung in conjunction with The African Women’s Studies Center and the University of Nairobi, invited their faithful partners and the esteemed members of the public to join hands in celebrating 10 years of coordinating and participating in the monthly gender Forums at a Gender Open Day. 71 youth girls graduated from various professional skills

NAGAAD Network supports youth girls by offering technical training courses as part of Nagaad’s theme of education. Nagaad has been serving for the public in the last 14 years and all along it proved true to provide skilled women with various technical knowledge in Somaliland. These include; advocacy trainings, scholarships, provision of literacy programs for the rural settlements, professional courses, etc.   Read more...

NAGAAD strives for the promotion of women in Somaliland, and its programs are aimed at strengthening of Nagaad’s organizational capacity as well as its member organizations by ensuring adequately skilled, competent and diverse Human Resource to carry out effective and sustainable projects.

STRATEGIC PLANNING REVIEW (21-22nd September, 2011 at KAAH Hotel) Hargeisa-Somaliland

NAGAAD Network hosted a two day workshop in which all member organizations of the Network came together to review and analyze Nagaad’s five year strategic plan (2009-2014). The strategy was already working and yet it is reviewed on yearly basis. The workshop was responding since Nagaad Secretariat and all member organizations made a very tangible turn up and discussed matters concerning the Network.
